The Cost-Effective Bride \ Kós-te-'fek-tiv Brid \ n.
(2001): The about-to-be-married woman that desires the
tangible, emotional, and memorable benefits of her
wedding to outweigh the money and time spent on
producing those benefits. She is both elegant and fun,
emotional and sensible. She understands that more
expensive does not necessarily equal better. She is
you.

                  FEATURED ARTICLE
MAKE WOODEN HEART MAGNETS AS FAVORS

Last time I shared one way of making magnets as favors
for your wedding. This week, I would like to share
with you an idea that one of our subscribers had on how
to make magnets as wedding favors. Pamela e-mailed
this idea to me, and I am very grateful for her
willingness to share her idea with all of you. Here is
what Pamela is doing:

Wooden Heart Magnets

You will need:

- "Wood Hearts"
- Wedding-Colored " Acrylic Paint"
- Small Pieces of "Ribbon" or "Rose" Decals
- Stamp of your names and wedding date (or thin
permanent marker - and good hand-writing!)
- Strip of "Magnet" or Small Round Magnets
- Hot "Glue Gun" (or 2)

* All of the above can be found at your local craft
store. Or, don't forget about the discount that
Joann.com has extended to you:
-----------
FREE SHIPPING on your order of $40 or more at
http://www.joann.com -- your online destination for
fabrics and crafts! Use promotion code BWEDD40 at
checkout. Hurry, offer expires 8/31/01*!

* $40 minimum does not include tax or discounts and
excludes purchases from Partner Stores. Promotion code
cannot be combined with other promotion codes, limit
one time use per person.
-----------
(By the way, I checked it out, and I did find most of
the items on their site by searching on the words in
quotes above. Ex. I found Rose Decals by searching on
"Rose".)

To start the project, paint the front of each of the
hearts with your wedding color(s). Place them on a
paper towel and let them dry. When they are ready,
write your names and wedding date on each of the
hearts.

Let me interject here to say, obviously this is going
to take a bit of time and effort, especially if you are
having a large wedding. Here is Pamela's advice for
you, "What better excuse to have a bunch of girlfriends
come over and have fun. Gather them up and have a craft
party!"

If you have enough people, you could even get a little
assembly line going - one person paints, two people
write, one person glues, and so on.

Next, make sure to have your hot glue gun warming up
while you are writing. Once the names and date are on
and dry, begin gluing the roses and/or ribbon on
wherever you would like them. (Pamela is gluing hers
to the top of the heart and she is also putting lace
all the way around the heart.)

Finally, glue or stick the magnets onto the back of the
heart. If you would like your guests to be able to
hang their favor in their house or on their Christmas
tree, you can also add some ribbon to the top for them
to hang it by.

As always, be creative! I am sure that there a ton of
different ways that you could change these directions
to make them unique to you and your wedding. Pamela
has even made her magnets even more special by adding
some symbolism to them.

In her wedding she is going to have a Rose Ceremony.
Instead of giving each other just one rose, she and her
fiance are going to give each other three roses - a red
rose for love, a white rose for purity, and a yellow
rose for friendship. On her magnets she is gluing one
of each of the colors of the roses at the top of the
heart to remind her guests of that special part of
their ceremony.

Well, Pamela and I both hope that you will find this
personal way to say "thank you" to your guests fun and
easy! Good luck to you to and always remember that
your relationship is more important than your wedding!

Sincerely,
Kelly Kons, Editor
