"We have enjoyed our website so very much. It has given our friends and family the opportunity to "sample" the wedding so to speak and has added such a special touch to our "simple elegance" theme."

Samples of Engagement Announcements

Looking to announce your engagement? Not quite sure how? Want to see samples of engagement announcements to help you out? Then you've come to the right place.

First, you probably want to submit your engagement announcement to the newspaper. You may want to consider submitting your engagement announcement in your hometown, your fiance's hometown, each town where your parents currently reside, and any town where you have quite a few relatives.

To submit an engagement announcement to a newspaper, simply call the newspaper's general line and ask for an engagement announcement form. You will be transferred to the right person or asked for your name and address. (You should do this for each different newspaper that you are submitting to, as they often have different rules.) The newspaper will then send you a form to fill out. You must complete the form and return it to the newspaper. When they receive your completed form, they will write up your announcement for you.

Second, you may want to announce your engagement to your friends and family. Many couples now do this through a save-the-date card. You can make these yourself with 25 lb. paper and embossing tools (see our "Embossing Your Invitations" article) or another idea would be to order photo cards online.

Ask a friend or family member to take a couple of snapshots of you and your fiance. Have them printed to a disc (by your photo developer) and then upload them to an online photo store, such as Ofoto.com or Shutterfly.com The cost per 50 5x7 or 4x8 photo cards is between $45.00-$50.00. Then, send them out to your closest friends and family to announce your engagement.

You can use any style of wording for these, but if you would like them to be more like a traditional engagement announcement, then choose a more formal style of wording.

Formal sample of engagement announcement:
"Mr. and Mrs. William Smith announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Jennifer Lee Smith, to Mr. Kenneth John Brown, son of Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Browm. An August 31st wedding is planned."
A less formal sample of an engagement announcement:
"Mr. and Mrs. William Smith are happy to announce the engagement of their daughter, Miss Jennifer Lee Smith, to Mr. Kenneth Brown, son of Mr, and Mrs. Theodore Brown. Jenny and Ken are planning an August 31st wedding and request that you save the date. Formal invitations will be sent closer to the date."
An informal sample of an engagement announcement:
"August 31, 2003 is the date chosen for a very joyous occassion - our wedding! We hope you will mark your calendars and save this date for us! We can't wait! Love, Jennifer Smith and Kenneth Brown"

Hopefully, these samples of engagement announcements will help you out when submitting, writing, or sending your engagement announcement!

Best Wishes to you,
Kelly Kons
